Tennis Coaching
Helsinki & Espoo
Helsinki Lawn Tennis Club offers tennis coaching in Helsinki and Espoo for players of all ages and skill levels. Our locations are Meilahti and Tapiola, and we also have some coaching sessions in Tali. We actively encourage players to participate in club competitions and events, so the sport is more than just a weekly practice session.
Adult Coaching
In HLK’s adult coaching, you have the opportunity to practice tennis under the guidance of experienced and inspiring coaches in a group that matches your skill level. Adult groups are organized in Meilahti, Tapiola, and Tali. Training sessions are available on weekdays from morning to evening as well as on Sundays.
In addition to weekly adult training sessions, HLK is an active organizer of tennis courses. Courses are held throughout the year and are generally short-term events with 3-5 sessions. Various events and competitions are also part of the adult players’ calendar.
Junior Coaching
On the junior side, HLK’s coaching is divided into U10 and U18 groups.
In the U10 program, we offer family tennis (child-parent) for the youngest members of the family. For preschoolers, we also provide evening, afternoon, and weekend practices.
For school-age children and those approaching school age, we offer very popular afternoon practices in addition to evening and weekend sessions. These afternoon sessions are scheduled right after school.
In U18 groups, players train 1-3 times per week. There are suitable practice groups for both less experienced players and those with more experience. We use a level system to ensure appropriate practice groups for all players.
We develop our junior activities in collaboration with our partner club HVS, with a great example being the joint club competitions. By participating in HLK’s coaching programs, juniors have the opportunity to compete in both HLK’s and HVS’s low-threshold club competitions. Our strong guiding principle is playing tennis, which includes participating in club competitions.
HLK has competitive coaching groups for various age groups.
The youngest are the Pikkudinot, whose goal is to foster a passion for tennis and see if the competitive tennis bug bites.
For school-age players, we have Dinojengi, a group for players involved in HLK’s afternoon tennis. The goal of Dinojengi is to offer more playing and training opportunities to those enthusiastic about tennis.
On the U18 side, we have the U18 TEAM. The U18 Team is intended for players who have shown enthusiasm for development and demonstrated activity in competing. Players may not yet be at the very top of their age group, but they are eager to reach that level.

Locations
The Meilahti Sports Center was completed in September 2008. The center has eight tennis courts (3 indoor and 5 in an overpressure hall), ten badminton courts, and a Unisport gym. The center also features a café and pro shop selling Wilson’s latest products. Changing rooms are located in the indoor hall, and there is a sauna in the changing rooms. All our tennis courts are made of Plexipave. In the summer, the overpressure halls are lowered, and tennis is played on excellent outdoor courts.
Tapiola Tennispuisto is known for its pleasant and cozy “club” atmosphere. The indoor hall features seven Greenset indoor courts. During the outdoor season, tennis can be played on well-maintained clay courts, of which there are four. There is a free parking lot for drivers with ample space.

Frequently Asked Questions
At what age can you start tennis?
Tennis can be started as early as 2-3 years old with a parent in HLK’s family tennis program. U10 mini tennis sessions are available for 4-year-olds.
Do I need my own racket for the sessions, and what kind of equipment is required?
For the first sessions, you do not need your own racket as one can be borrowed from the coach. We recommend purchasing your own racket once you receive advice from the coach on what type to buy. Playing with your own racket is much more enjoyable. For sessions, regular indoor sports attire is sufficient. Tennis shoes, which provide more support than regular indoor shoes, are recommended.
I have not played tennis before; can I sign up for adult coaching?
Absolutely, please mention this during registration so we can place you in a beginner group.
What if I am traveling and cannot attend a session?
We have a compensation system that allows you to store a missed session and make it up in another group. Individual session absences are not considered in billing. For longer illness-related absences, please contact the club office about suspending billing.
How is billing handled?
We bill for coaching via email. Billing occurs twice in the fall season and twice in the spring season.
